Olga, PLEASE tell Jacob he needs to get his yearbook things in. The project's been halted because we're waiting for him. (and Natashia)
As long as we're on the Jamie subject: as far as I know he still has about 40 of my cds and at least 5 of my dollars. The cds I'd like back, if anyone sees him again and mentions that, but he can keep the 5 bucks. I'd gladly pay more than that in thanks to him for being such a damn cool weed-smoking chaparone.

Does anyone know how he god fafsa aid to college with the mip, or for that matter into Cornell or the Telluride House? Or actually, since this is a public forum, let's not get into that. Instead my question will be, how did we end up with such darn cool factotum?
Sunday, August 29, 2004
I got as far as finding out that there was a group of people who were caught smoking weed at Jamie's TASP - some got kicked out and others were warned and their parents notified. But to think Jamie was one of them!

(pseudolabor quote: I'm applying for a social security number just as I post this.
item 13: "enter any different date of birth if used on an earlier application for a card.")

Aimee, do you think you can get me Jamie's contact info?
Is there an aquarium at Yale? : )

I just got back from a yummy dinner of Thai food with Jamie, who is finishing his last semester. I also learned an interesting piece of information- Our own Jamie May was himself kicked out of TASP! Quel horreur! Apparently he was caught smoking four weeks into it- he was actually very surprised that we hadn't found this out ourselves. He remarked that it felt strange to be an authority figure for us afterwards.
good food, good stories, good company.

Tae-Yeoun, tell Adrian's room mate to not be alarmed when Jared shows up at night.
We had a fine suite.

New AIM screen name is cheeryspider (it's a reference to the hawaiian happyface spider- look at pictures >>> http://biology.swau.edu/faculty/petr/ftphotos/hawaii/postcards/spiders/ )

i very much hope you are really happily doing well.

I ran into Jamie today!! Walking from one of my classes, I did a double take, but there he was. But I never had told him that I had in fact decided to come so I almost feel bad for the amount of shock I gave him : ). We're going to go to dinner tomorrow, and yes, I'll tell him hi from all of you, and that he should get hisself on the blog.
college is smiley.

Alright Bryan, I take that back, the double pronged plugs do fit in the weird outlets with one more hole.

I went over to Adrian's dorm yesterday while all the freshmen were moving in, and so began what will be an extended-over-four-wonderful-years post-tasp tasper reunion. Adrian had just returned from a weeklong pre-orientation hiking program, over the duration of which he did not take a single shower. He was in the shower when I got there, so I waited in his suite, getting in the way of his suitemates as they rearranged the furniture this way and that. Adrian was in the shower for a long time. Like thirty minutes, because according to his suitemate he had gone in the shower twenty minutes before I'd arrived, and I waited at least ten minutes until I finally asked someone to yell at him to come out.

So our meeting happened like this:
Tae-Yeoun: (springs up from couch that was not being moved at the moment to hug/be hugged) ADRIANNNNNN!!!!!!
Adrian: (has crazy unbraided hair floating six inches in a fro around his head) Okay, can I put my pants on?

We talked for a while then we climbed up five flights of stairs to Alex's room, was terrorized by my sister on the way, met Alex's roommate's sister (I think), found out Alex was arriving Sunday, remembered Alex was still Tybalt, then Adrian walked me to the bookstore where I was supposed to meet my sister and mother.

Ooh, so Adrian has really really cool hair now - I found a pencil it in this morning, and I stuck his glasses in it and it stayed. There was a president's address today where we had to dress formal and he came with an open shirt and a tie. And he still wears his meditation beads. :)

Hiiiiiiii from the unbelievably gorgeous Sterling Memorial Library at Yale.
My international student orientation ended last night, and the actual freshmen orientations start today, so I expect to bump into Alex and Adrian eventually.
Ugh I'm so tired. Just wanted to say hi and that I love all of you. :)

Susan: can I mail you at your Harvard mailing address? If not, could you (or anyone else who's reading this and has the telluride directory in front of them) send me your address at home? I forgot to bring it here. :(

Most surprising thing about college: BRYAN YOU LIED TO ME!!! THE ELECTRICAL OUTLETS SSSSOOOOO AREN'T DOUBLE PRONGS???!!!

Well, college starts in like, 10 days, and here I am wrestling with my second mono infection this year, hoping to recover. However, this summer has been better than I thought it would be. For one, I have discovered the music of Los Lonely Boys, the only non-anglos on Country Music Television and just a sweet, sweet band. Tara and Kelsey, the Garza brothers are hot and Texan, get their CD.
It's funny you mention the New Testament John; I've taken this summer to explore my faith before I'm caught up in the rush of college. I've been trying on lots of different hats: Kierkegaardian "Knight of Faith," agnostic, fundamentalist, mainline liberal. The common thread has been my inability to escape God, an idea wonderfully put forth by Flannery O'Connor in her novel Wise Blood.
I'd recommend N.T. Wright's New Testament and the People of God and Jesus and the Victory of God, for anyone who, like me, has as much trouble finding Jesus as escaping God. The author is a highly-regarded "traditionalist" author whose conclusions do support something like orthodox Christianity but arrive there by a very reasoned and public method.
I found his critical-realist epistemology to be a satisfying alternative to radical post-modern skepticism. His elaboration of this method in itself recommends NTPG to all Taspish souls.
If you have no time for that, at least listen to Los Lonely Boys.

tonight i saw a marching band in person for the first time. and not just any marching band: the world famous and totally freakin awesome texas longhorn band. i still don't know the words to "texas fight," but i can't get "eyes of texas" out of my head. also, we had queso at kerbey lane and it was delicious.

tara says hello.
Guys, guess whats happening this saturday at Cornell?!!!! THey MIGHT BE GIANTS CONCERT!!!!! Nobody makes a big deal about it at all- there are just a few obscure signs around campus- but I was (and AM) sOOO excited (right now I'm listening to a TMBG preparatory playlist:O)
Oh and speaking of concerts I went to a great UB40 concert at home right before I left- it was greeeaaaat, a perfect sendoff- also it was most likely the biggest band our island has seen in 5 years or so :)

thinking of you guys*
aimee
p.s. - courses : )
bio autotutorial, chem, and stats for bio : ) and then I'm so excited because I'm taking this really interesting french literature class- (in french-so two of the things I love most in one happy course*:D ) and a philosophy seminar- not sure yet whether I'll get the one about types of love or socratic puzzles- should be good though :) I think i need to play it down a bit with the emoticons. (restraining smiley urges**)
I'm posting twice because I really care about this.

Has everyone seen this ad: http://www.johnkerry.com/oldtricks ?

I as well started class today. Because I'm taking classes for free here, and don't plan on getting my degree here either, I'm taking only things I think would be fun. And they are.

Besides a survey World Religions course, and introduction to New testament (Matthew, we must have some conversations in a few months, I'm trying to find faith if you'll believe that)-
I'm taking a choir class, as well as Feminist Art of the 20th century, Short Stories of the 20th Century, "Goddess Mythology," and am getting some Poli-Sci class credit for working on the Kerry Campaign. I'd love to hear what everyone else is taking / majoring in.

I think your labor quotations are spectacular Adam, and will try to post more.
tara and i are here! we can be reached at:
432 blanton
2500 university ave
austin, tx 78705-9012

our (cell) phone numbers are still the same, at least for now. i do believe we are the first non-homosexual-death-cult taspers to start school (our last night of partying was, alas, last night as classes start TOMORROW. eek.) call us, love us, send us mail.

what is everyone taking next semester? i'm taking three plan ii classes - world lit, logic, and a totally f-ing awesome tutorial ("critiquing the critics"...basically writing music/movie reviews with a former senior editor of the village voice. with 20 people in the class. and for free. take that, you ivy league bastids!) and also linguistics and calculus. i currently have no major (plan ii/plan ii) and i really dig it.

anyway. i miss all of you. and burritos!

I post to you from the land of telluride- Cornell is crazy, its wonderful- wonderfully large, and in many ways it reminds me of TASP- (not as much as I wish it would, but nonetheless :)
Perhaps I will seek out this spoken-of Jamie :)
Classes start on the 26th- I'm so excited-today was an open house for the College of Arts & Sciences, so i got to talk to all of the professors, and then there was also a great book panel on Kafka's The Trial (freshman reading) 4000 students hearing three professors each give 10 minute speeches, then answered questions and they were so tactful- i was so impressed by their eloquence, graceful responses to the most outlandish of questions- as you can imagine- 4000 students with such eclectic passions.
miss you guys much still- dreams of idyllic TASP colleges :)
Heyyy I'm posting from the Inchon Int'l airport. Just over a year ago I sat RIGHT here and created the blog account. :) Just under fourteen months ago I sat, right here, and emailed Monica saying "nonononono I AM arriving on June 27 after all, not July 27."

Well, my flight [back] to the U.S. is in less than an hour. Rather surreal, really.

I can't believe a year's passed. I miss you all.

i promised jacob i would send him something
i still haven't
maybe all of you can help with that
i got his contact info sometime back in... uh... june

Deep Springs College HC 72 Box 45001 Deep Springs, CA via Dyer, NV 89010-9803
shlooom: and i'm going to be jacob@deepsprings.edu

obviously our last aim conversation
i don't have anything to say
just a memory of tasp that came to me tonight
and in the spirit of tasp... freestyle writing like our morning pages

sitting on the outside at night
cooler than usual
sky's the dark blue that fades away
with stars that twinkle in and out of existence
hearing the faint thrumming of the guitar
tucked away in our little meeting place
a little requiem of yesterday
soft touches of a breeze that clings
tainted with the city smells
on top of rooftop full of memories
and wanting to go home
not realizing i already had a family there
a home of sorts
i can't remember the last time i went out and looked at the stars
buried in a living tomb of my room
i guess i better do that now
before i forget how to live again
I have been disappointed as of late, as to the few posts that we have been getting. Although this is in large part my fault, I still feel it is my right to complain. I am also dissapointed in the labor quote that I put in the yearbook. So, I thought I give you some of my recent favorites, thus killing two birds with one post.

Adam: You tend to exaggerate.
Nicole: You're calling me a liar!!!

Natalia: Adam you should really stop procrastinating, it's bad for you.
Adam: I know, I'll stop as soon as I get to college.

Adam: So where are you going to college?
Evan: I'm gonna put the ass in Umass.
Adam: Haha
Evan: What about you?
Adam: I'm gonna put the penis in boston university.

Well I thought they were funny :p

The past few weeks have involved so many goodbyes ("oh no, this will be the third-to-last time I see you!") that the actual goodbyes just kind of happened if at all. And GOD I hate packing.

Anyway, I'm posting this link that I randomly (yeah right) found the other day - it's from Jamie's TASP. Apparently our beloved factotum had been an "amputated/removed" TASPTail. It doesn't make any sense to me either, but it was still mildly amusing.

Music recommendation: 'Cathedrals' by Jump, Little Children. (John, where's your list?)

i'm back from camp, which was beautiful and healing and incredible in ways words can't describe, and i hope to take you all there with me next year. approximately 2 more hours and i am leaving san francisco forever (hardly.) nostalgia and sadness and crying and all that. i have yearbook pages from everyone except for jacob, jared, natashia and john.

My room mate is a guy named bill from dallas. Princeton calls him "Willliam" (with three l's). He is a Princeton football player who is now at football camp, all of which is very funny to me and perhaps even more so to you other Ivy leaguers. He tells me our room has a fireplace in which we can't start a fire. Maybe I'll store my books there.

Hey all. I had my contact info at some point and I gave it to kelsie. I lost it already but I do remember my email being atom731@bu.edu. I'm getting a cell phone soon too but I don't know that number yet. I was just gonna email tae-yeoun but I remember I promissed her I would blog today. So nothing really important to say. What kind of things are you guys getting for college? People tell me I need to go shopping for my dorm but I'm just like as long as I have clothes and hair gel I'll be all set.

WE MISSED AN EVENT! Sadly, I found this only on Sunday afternoon while working on vaguely taspish projects:

SATURDAY, August 7 (Austin)"Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review," in conjunction with 12th Street Books, presents a Literary Reading at 6:30 p.m. Featured poets are Dorothy Barnett, Jack Brannon, Farid Matuk, Lyman Grant, and D'Arcy Randall. For more information, call 12th Street Books at 512.499.8828.

I think I'm going to email her and demand that she post a poem on the blog, lest the wrath of taspers past & future come down on Austin (possiably in the forms of either Kelsey or Tara).
questions to come....
Saturday, August 07, 2004
I just got back from a so-called road trip to Tagaytay and my favorite place in the Philippines, to discover that:

(a) I've supposedly been going to school with one of Eunice's hidden relatives.
(b) Alas, we've broken the record for the longest period of non-posting on the blog.

I wanted to upload my pictures from the Korea reunion but for some reason a necessary TWAIN(?) driver has vanished from my computer, so that's been postponed indefinitely. I just finished watching Old Boy an hour ago, and it's pretty disturbing, but at the same time, pretty. I'd recommend it, but will not take responsibility for my recommendation. I have to catch up on a lot of email but still I get peeved when I don't get any new mail. Bryan Lee did most of his yearbook survey over MSN chat but will not finish the four remaining questions I emailed him. This is a public accusation.

End-of-post question. How do you recommend I take my CDs to college? Given that I regard the CD cases just as importantly as the CDs themselves, is it really worth it to haul them across the Pacific?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATASHIA!
Monday, August 02, 2004
I'm so excited about Olga's roommate! She interned at the place I went on yearly field trips to in elementary/middle school where I planted rice badly and got chased around by a caribao!

In any case, the college contact info section is part of our original yearbook plan, so hopefully you'll all get them with the yearbook in the fall. Actually, Kelsey has asked me to collect them, so please email them to me or post them on the blog. It would be nice if you could include your mailing address, your phone number, and your email address from September onwards.

Completely irrelevantly, I found a CNN article on a Hemingway lookalike contest. Spooky.
hahahaha scratch the last "mine" at the bottom of the other post-- hahaha can you tell i'm excited about having a dorm room? typing error or freudian slip. : )
mine'll be :
aimee clark (duh)
hurlburt house-Ecology program #0123 (isn't that an incredible room number?)
1 country club road
Ithaca, NY 14850-2363mine
